Last Minute Drama at Jasper Challenge – Fatty Fell From Victory to Abyss

Jasper challenge had a dramatic final, as Heikki's Fatty (”Läski”) was already raising his fins to celebrate victory, but fell unexpectedly more than 10 meters down from the  outlet of the water power plant at Korkeakoski. Fatty was unfortunate, to say the least, since the flood outlet was open just for an hour for minor constructions.

Fatty ended up in impossible position below the dam. The way to victory would have forced him to return to the sea and swim back to the starting area and so forth, all the way up to the Koivukoski area, were the GP got it's solution. However, a trip to the sea always means disqualification for the day, and therefore Fatty was guaranteed to be out as soon as his massive body hit the river underneath the dam.

To everyone's surprise the winner turned out to be Kimi of the Ice One Racing team, contrary to the information that spread out just seconds before the finish. The victorious news reached Kimi, who was swimming rapid circles at Ruhavuolle, having lost the sense of direction again, late in the afternoon. Eyewitnesses reported he raised his left fin and lip readers were convinced that he said something like "yess" after hearing the news, although it might have as well been "were the hell is my cell phone and will there be a party here in Kotka or what?".

Rapala's BX Swimmer did the longest swim of the day and caught up with the others. The Rapala team manager's explanation for yesterday's underachieving was, that ”you have to test the new swimmers and make them move, regardless of the direction. The race is still young and we will be competing for the medals”.

Makia Racing team, who's Mr. Salmon is leading the overall race, is extending the racing activity to other areas, too, as Kimi Räikkönen was blackmailed to join the Makia team as a formula one driver. Mr. Salmon is still leading in spite of the fact that he had to slow down a bit to sort his cool new Makia clothing. Kimi, too, is rumored to have a new beanie.

The final day of the Jasper Challenge GP will be a thrill, after Heikki's Fatty (”Läski”) failed and Kimi passed the strongest candidate for the championship, below the Koivukoski dam. Desicive challange will be the fishway. Kimi has been there a few times, but the narrow passage has proved to be overpowering for one of the fastest fishes of the sport. Kimi seems to have the strange habit of going bananas just after passing the inlet to the fishway, and ends up floating down in bruises after severe hits with both of the walls.

It turned out to be impossible to interview Kimi afterwords, as the fish kept banging it's head against the wall below the power plant. The analysts suggested, that if Kimi will manage to swim upstream, the fish is almost guaranteed to win. However, Kimi has lost the sense of direction over and over again, and anything could happen. Fatty is just a kilometer behind, and Jasper's Koskinen is within striking distance.

Team Houston's fish, called more than incidentially the Problem, got finally new instructions and stormed to the Hinttulankoski rapid, winning day's leg. Mr Salmon of Makia Racing team proceeded less, but got higher, as the fish left the quintet of the others in the start and took the leading position in the overall GP.

This time there were no major scandals in the Free Salmon GP, allthough crowds on the river banks witnessed some obsecure divers, who were wearing masks, and caring guns. The judges were avoiding contacts with both the crowds and the fishsport media.

The fishes of the Jasper Challenge were preparing for the final spurt and did not move very much, as if they were sparing forces for the last couple of days. Jasper's Koskinen was the top riser of the day, and Kimi, who zigzagged violently around Langinkoski, got second, despite of serious problems with orientation.

Heikki is still dominant the overall race and the analysts of the sport are convinced that the GP is totally under his domination.

In the Kuntavaali (Local Election) GP Calle of the Swedish party left the Hope (”Toivo”) of the Kokoomus behind and took hold of the bronze medal in the overall race. The Last Salmochican is still leading, before Teko, who is turning into a serious contestant after being lost for such awhile.

Jasper Challenge and Kuntavaali (Election) GP had quiet days, as the action seemed to be stuffed in the Kymenlaakso GP's final solution. Pietari, of the Christian Democrats, won the leg of Monday by swimming a kilometer upstream. The other politicians of the sport had negative scores, as the stream seemed to take the fishes down. The longest drop was recorded right on the top of the race, as the Last Salmochican (”Viimeinen Lohikaani”) returned to check again some lower rapids he had passed days ago on his way to the Anjalankoski dead end. Salmochican is still way above the others, despite having the reverse on.

In Jasper Challenge Her Majesty the Queen won the leg with ease, and Heikki's Fatty (”Läski”) secured his position in the overall GP.

In Free Salmon GP there were some suspicions again, as the Jury's own fish Sexy MF was followed by a helicopter, and won the Monday's leg with a spurt of 3200 meters. At pit stop it was gossiped that it was David Hasselhoff following the race, but the suspicions arose as the chopper proceeded in sync with the Sexy MF. Many observers suggested that there should be and independent commission judging the events.

Makia's Mr Salmon is still leading, and Rapala's BX Swimmer is second in the overall GP.

Weismuller Trouted the Others Shut Up and Won the GP The only trout in the competition, Weismuller, did not leave chances to the Salmons in her race. Helen's Ritu tried to leave the others behind, but started her spurt too early, loosing her strength and eventually falling to the bottom of the powerplant junction and gaining silver. With good timing and clever moves, Weismuller speeded up to the victory, as the only fish in the fishway leading through the Koivukoski dam in her GP. ”I felt very confident throughout the race”, Weismuller concluded. ”I had no issues either with my fins or the tail, and swimming felt good. Now I'll have a little break for spawning, but I still have many years left to go on with my career”. Keke got silver in yesterday's leg, ending third in the overall race.
